Response to Illustration 03

Darkness Upon Me...

It stands there
Towering above this
Plummeting mess
That is me
Within myself...
Hard to face
Is the thought that
Someone muttered words once
Which banished all burden
Revived all smothered hope
Opened up my eyes...
Hard to face
Is the closing blind
Of a window of optimism...
My eyes are shutting
As it descends;
A blanket of bitterness
Swallowing me, this
Darkness upon me...
My soul retreats inside
My heart holds its breath
My life comes to that dreadful halt
Of bottomless heartache...

"drowning"

Drowning.
Haunting. Calming. Silent.
I watch the last bubble before my eyes
Rise into the dimming light above.
I do not struggle. I do not fight.
I sink, slowly, silently.
Into the eternal deep.
our greatest unforeseen .
My hands are outstretched.
Reaching.
I await a rope to be thrown.
A single sign of hope.
In the stillness that consumed
My every thought
I listened,
But that rope did not come
And I am left,
adrift at sea.

Let Me Down Gently

this is a song I wrote for my friend

Let me down Gently
(for Geoff)
1
A growing sensation
of total abandonment
destruction watches, approaching fast
find shelter quickly
Tomorrow's coming
Don't let it take you away

Chorus:
As tomorrow creeps, over the window sill
it finds me waiting
fighting to defend you
I won't let it take you away

2
Passing through time
flying through growth
bringing me down to earth
with a bump
back to reality
but I cannot lose you

3
Fighting through the wastelands
of my barren memory
looking for something to let me
back to reality
if you bring me down
bring me down gently

4
letting me down
my heart can't take it
I've watched you walk away,
straight into his arms
you couldn't even let me down gently

5
Are you searching for reason?
well I hope you find it
I couldn't have you
so I had to watch you
turn and walk away

6
Light creeps in slowly
through the old broken window
here come's tomorrow
but it's too late
you've already gone

This is a poem I wrote a while ago but I've a feeling it'll work with the image

The Day Emotion left the world to die

Business-men leaving families
suddenly not caring
The little girl, her puppy passed away
she; oblivious, has just gone out to play

The radio and T.V.
blare news of buildings falling
people dying
but we stare blankly, into nothing

Atrocities- horrific at any time but now
have no effect
we cannot feel remorse
we no longer remember how

Blandly, the telephone rings
forsaken by it's usual urgency
it bears news that, undoubtedly will
be received in deathlike silence

Dreaming, once in colour
creating wondrous fantasy
what once amazed
now has drifted into monotone

Alone

Alone
"I work best alone"
I said to myself on
the cold winter morning
as I walked away from her

She just stood watching me
as I disappeared into the fog
She said nothing,
just watched

"I don't need her"
I walked mulling things over
finding things to blame her for

She just stood there
disappearing from view
and I kept walking

"I'm better off without her"
I left, to become a man of the world
plenty more fish in the sea after all

She just stood there
her hands outstretched
clutching the two halves
of the heart she'd just torn out

Another response to illustration 4

This is actually a song I wrote a while back but it has just occured to me that it could fit in well here. It doesn't really have a name.

Once or twice is quite outstanding
If there's nothing up that sleeve.
But I won't be the judge
of that.
But it won't fit into the picture
And it won't shine a perfect light
That will guide our fall to safety.

And that's all we want from this.
That's all that we need to see.
So put your hands in the air
Just to let us know you're alive.

Let down after broken promise.
Bated breath and silent screams.
The essence is all but lost
Inside us.
But you'll only get what we intended,
Catch small glimpses of the dreams
That we hold together in union.

And that's all we want from this.
That's all that we need to see.
So put your hands in the air
Just to let us know you're alive.

And grasp with your fingertips.
Reach up into the unknown heights.
And if your feet leave the ground hten don't look back
To find them.
